Should it be unlawful for the press to lie?

Censorship and misapplication of the law would probably be the first arguments made in response to the phrase in this post's title. Nevertheless, it is a legitimate question based on what the press has evolved into. Should it be unlawful for the press to lie? Let's briefly explore.

He who controls information controls the narrative. This has been historically factual. The issue is that a narrative isn't always necessarily true. Also, historically the left has controlled media and information. In the United States we have freedom of the press by way of the Constitution. The issue is that the press doesn't always speak the truth. This is one of the reasons Donald Trump calls many media outlets "fake news." Without removing Constitutional rights, this problem can be resolved. How? The media has to speak the truth instead of fabricating narratives. This can be made into a specific law (one way or another), and subsequently that law can be enforced. Amending the Constitution would probably be the best way.
